DiaRoute is a food and glucose diary for adults living with diabetes who manage their own care. The Terms of Use require users to be 18 or older, and the first screen of the app asks for an explicit confirmation of age together with acceptance of the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. Without that confirmation the app cannot be used.
This is our own restriction rather than one imposed on us. The app works with health data — a special category under the GDPR — and it assumes the person using it makes their own decisions about their diabetes care.
What kind of content it contains
The app regularly presents health and lifestyle information: it interprets glucose patterns, summarises a week, answers questions about food through an in-app assistant, and produces a report you can take to an appointment.
It does not diagnose anything, and it deliberately gives no treatment instructions.
What the app deliberately does not do
- It does not calculate insulin doses. The dose calculator was removed from the code entirely, and the assistant refuses dose questions by design.
- It does not change therapy settings and gives no treatment advice — that stays with the user and their care team.
- It is not a medical device, carries no CE marking and has been reviewed by no medical device regulator.
Why there is nothing here that needs age gating beyond that
The app contains no material of the kind age ratings usually guard against, and it has no social surface at all:
- No user-generated content is distributed to anyone — records stay on the device that created them
- No social feed, no profiles, no messaging between users; the only conversation is with the in-app assistant
- No advertising of any kind, and no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app
- No in-app web browser: the few external links open in the system browser
- No tracking, no advertising identifiers, no user accounts
